Best Software Development Companies in Uruguay (2026)

Valorado con 5 de 5
best software development companies in Uruguay

Updated on 20 August 2026. We added real Google Maps ratings and one major change the previous version missed: one of these five companies was acquired by a US firm.

Quick summary

  • Most reviewed: CódigoDelSur, with 4.6 out of 5 across 67 reviews, far ahead of the rest in volume.
  • Highest rated: LoopStudio and Octobot, both at 4.9.
  • The change you should know about: Octobot was acquired by US company Sparq in early 2024. It keeps its name, its founders and its Uruguayan operation.
  • With an office you can visit: CódigoDelSur in Carrasco, Octobot and Bixlabs in Pocitos, Rootstrap in the Old City.
  • A caveat on ratings: none of them passes 70 reviews. These are B2B companies and their clients rarely leave Google reviews.

How to choose a development company in Uruguay

The Uruguayan software market is small and heavily export-driven: a large share of these companies’ revenue comes from clients in the United States. That has a practical consequence for you.

Several of these companies are sized for international projects, so a small build for a local business may not be the kind of work they are looking for.

What to ask before requesting a quote:

  • Minimum project size. It is the question that saves the most time and almost nobody asks it first.
  • Who actually works on your project and from which country.
  • Engagement model. Fixed-scope project, dedicated team and staff augmentation are different things and are priced differently.
  • What happens after delivery. Maintenance, fixes, and who ends up owning the code and the accounts.
  • Cases in your industry. Ask for two or three specific ones, with names and outcomes.

Bixlabs, Uruguayan software development company

Bixlabs works on product development and SaaS from Pocitos. It is the highest rated on this list, with the usual caveat.

Google Maps: 5.0 out of 5 (6 reviews, very few reviews).

A 5.0 built on 6 opinions is not comparable to CódigoDelSur’s 4.6 across 67.

2. LoopStudio

LoopStudio, software development company in Montevideo

LoopStudio was born in Montevideo and works on web development, custom applications and data engineering, with a team that handles Ruby on Rails, JavaScript, React and Node.

Its Google listing shows no office open to the public and a US phone number, which fits an operation aimed at overseas clients.

3. Octobot, now part of Sparq

Octobot, Uruguayan software company acquired by Sparq

This is the biggest change since the previous version of this guide.

Octobot was acquired by Sparq, a US company headquartered in Atlanta, in a deal closed in early 2024. It was Sparq’s first purchase of a Latin American technology company.

For clients, little changed: the company kept its name, its founders still lead the local operation and the team remains in Uruguay, with delivery centres in Argentina and Colombia as well. Founded in 2014, it works on digital product design, software engineering, data engineering and quality assurance.

Google Maps: 4.9 out of 5 (16 reviews).

4. CódigoDelSur

CódigoDelSur, software development company in Carrasco, Montevideo

CódigoDelSur has been running since 2006, which makes it the most senior company on this list, and it specialises in mobile applications. Its office is in Carrasco.

Google Maps: 4.6 out of 5 (67 reviews).

With 67 opinions it has nearly three times more reviews than any other company here, which makes its 4.6 the most reliable rating on the list.

5. Rootstrap

Rootstrap, digital platform development company with an office in Montevideo

Rootstrap is an international agency with an office in the Old City. It builds digital platforms, web and mobile applications, and in recent years has pushed hard into artificial intelligence.

Google Maps: 4.4 out of 5 (11 reviews).

Where Rootstrap is: Sarandí 690, Montevideo. More at rootstrap.com.

Frequently asked questions

Which is the best software development company in Uruguay?

It depends how you measure it. By rating, Bixlabs has 5.0 but only 6 reviews. LoopStudio and Octobot both sit at 4.9, with 23 and 16 opinions. By reliability of the data, CódigoDelSur is the strongest: 4.6 across 67 reviews, nearly three times more than any other.

What happened to Octobot?

It was acquired by Sparq, a US company based in Atlanta, in a deal closed in early 2024. It was Sparq’s first purchase of a Latin American technology company. Octobot kept its name, its founders still lead the local operation and the team remains in Uruguay.

Which Uruguayan software companies have an office you can visit?

CódigoDelSur at Av. 19 de Abril 3465 in Carrasco, Octobot at Caracas 1264, Bixlabs at Dr. Héctor Miranda 2361 and Rootstrap at Sarandí 690 in the Old City. LoopStudio shows no office open to the public on its Google listing.

Which is the oldest development company on this list?

CódigoDelSur, running since 2006. Octobot was founded in 2014.

Should I choose a software company by its Google rating?

Only up to a point. None of these companies passes 70 reviews, because their clients are other businesses and they rarely review on Google. It matters far more to ask for two or three specific cases in your industry and to find out who will actually work on your project.

What should I ask before hiring a development company?

The minimum project size they accept, who is on the team and where they work from, the engagement model (fixed-scope, dedicated team or staff augmentation), what post-delivery maintenance covers, and who ends up owning the code and the accounts.

Why do Uruguayan software companies work so much for foreign clients?

Uruguay has a high number of programmers per capita and these companies moved early into exporting services. In Octobot’s case, close to 70% of its revenue came from US clients before the acquisition.

What changed since the previous version

This guide was published in 2022 and described the five companies without a single verifiable figure.

  • Octobot was acquired by Sparq in early 2024, a change the previous version did not record. Its octobot.io domain now redirects to teamsparq.com.
  • Google Maps ratings were added for all five, with review counts, so the order does not depend on our opinion.
  • Addresses were added, which were missing entirely.
  • A section on what to ask before hiring was added, starting with the minimum project size.

Sources and how we verified this guide

On 20 August 2026 we checked the five companies from the original version.

  1. We tested each company’s website to confirm it was still live and where it led.
  2. We took the rating, review count and address from its Google Maps listing on that same day.
  3. The Sparq acquisition of Octobot was verified against Uruguayan press and the Uruguayan Chamber of Information Technologies, not directories.
  4. Where a company has few reviews we say so, because its rating is not comparable to one with dozens.
